Abstract
The study of the holotype of Attagenus pellio var. pilosissimus Roubal, 1932 from Gargano (southern Italy, Apulia) confirms that this variety is a synonym of A. pellio (Linnaeus, 1758). Attagenus cyphonoides is formally recorded from Italy. Attagenus fasciatus is recorded for the second time in Italy. Attagenus pantherinus is confirmed for Italy on the basis of an overlooked literature record. Attagenus quadrimaculatus is excluded from the Italian fauna. Attagenus silvaticus, recently recorded from Sicily (Italy), is compared with the closely related A. pellio. Finally, an updated checklist of the twenty Italian species of Attagenus is provided.
