The paper presents a description of some features of ecology of 40 Dermestid species
securing in Central Asia. All the species are divided by the habitats of larvae into 6
groups as follows:
1) Necrobionths — Dermestes species developing on the corpses of vertebrates; 2) Herpetobionths — Dermestes species inhabiting the soil surface where they are feeding on minute corpses (mainly of invertebrates); 3) Botrobionths — Attagenus species developing
in the burrows of mammals and birds; 4) Nidicoles — Dermestes, Attagenus and Anthrenus species developing in birds nests; 5) Symbionths (sensu lato) of wasps and bees Attagenus, Anthrenus, Phradonoma, Trogoderma and Thylodrias contractus Motsch.;
6) Dendrobionths — Attagenus, Megatoma, Globicornis, Ctesias and Orphilus species
developing under bark and in the tunnels of xylophages. |
