Cryptorhopalum prenai from Costa Rica is described as a species be- ing new to science, furthermore illus- trated and compared with the very similar looking species Cryptorhopa- lum ruficorne LeConte, 1854 occurring in Mexico and the southern parts of the USA. A list of all Cryptorhopalum species recorded so far from Costa Rica is provided.
