  • Abstract:
A new species of dermestid beetle, Anthrenus dashi sp. nov., is described from Greece (Coleoptera: Dermestidae: Megatominae). Anthrenus dashi closely resembles A. verbasci (Linnaeus, 1767), a highly variable species. Anthrenus dashi can be separated from A. verbasci through close inspection of the median lobe and sternite IX structures. For both A. dashi and A. verbasci, images of habitus (dorsal and ventral), antenna, aedeagus (focusing on median lobe structure), and sternite IX are presented. Images examining the differentiation of A. dashi from A. funebris Reitter, 1889, another Greek species, are also provided. A redescription of Anthrenus verbasci, which has never been properly described, is also presented, based on specimens from Spain (Balearic Islands) and United Kingdom.
