Although A. pellio is a senior synonym of Dermestes macellarius Fabricius, 1781 (an originally included nominal species), subsequent designations of A. pellio as the type species (e.g., Curtis, 1829; Hope, 1840; Westwood, 1840) are invalid under ICZN Article 67.2.
